Here is a short overview of the Glossary in use in congress:

Abstract - A short document produced by the Rapporteur (author) that summarizes the topic discussed during the conference sessions.

Badge - Card of recognition given to all participants and staff service, which provides access to meeting rooms, special events etc.. The badge can be magnetic, or by crawling only in the drive, or RFID, the latest generation, readable from a distance.

Congressman - (Attendant) - Participants at the conference as a listener.

References - (Chair - Referee) At major conferences for each subject there is a specific committee, chaired by a specific chair. The chair is the one who receives the abstracts of potential speakers, evaluates them and decide whether to accept them and place them in the program of the Congress, or reject.

CME - Continuing Medical Education - Regulations prepared by the Ministry of Health that provides for the allocation to health care professionals with specific scores according to participation in conferences, both as speakers and as participants.

Exhibitor - A frequent occurrence in many conferences may also present a show or a  technique exposure. In this case the stands are rented to exhibitors for the duration of the conference.

PCO (Professional Conference Organizer) - The PCO is the organizing secretary of the event. The PCO is the one who coordinates the scientific committee, the speakers, participants, suppliers and sponsors. The PCO has a contract with the scientific secretariat which describes in detail the tasks and duties.

Program - (Schedule) - The program is printed listing all the sessions of Congress, showing the days, hours and the rooms. The program is defined by the scientific secretary or chair in function of Asbtract which have been accepted.

Scientific Secretary - The secretariat scientific (scientific committee) is composed of the sponsors of the conference, typically scientists, who are turning to the PCO for anything that has to organization of the conference. Generally, the scientific secretary is the one proposed by Abstract assesses potential speakers and decide whether to accept or reject them.

Session -  During a congressional session, the speakers present their arguments and the participants listen. Plenary sessions include all participants in the congress,  contemporary sessions, where participants choose which session to attend. See in this regard also tracks.

Sponsor - The sponsor contributes financially to the conduct of the event in exchange for advertising. Advertising which may appear in magazines specific to the Congress, on folders, on badges, but also through hedge funds given to events, cocktail parties, gala dinners, and so on.

Speaker - Speaker at the conference. Typically each speakers presented one or more sessions. Often, he is also participating, that is in addition to present his session is also participating in other sessions as a listener.

Track - Several concurrent sessions can be scheduled in different rooms to create more Tracks, each ones on a separate topic. This gives a way for participants to take part in the sessions that best identify with the subject matter of interest.
